Part 29 of my 31 part series following the AU bus trip from Washington DC to Milwaukee, Wisconsin: So this is when our itinerary had us getting back to D.C. but we are not back yet. Not even close. We are still in Ohio, west of Youngstown. Google says we are still 5 hours away which means we arent getting back before 9:30am at the earliest. Which means that we will be hitting DC and the beltway right in the middle of morning rush hour. Which means it will take longer then that. There are people on this bus who will not be getting back in time for class in the morning. Kind of ridiculous. Some stats from this trip. We have now been away from AU for 32.5 hours. Of that we have spent 26 hours on a bus at least I may have screwed up the math on that. Back to one of the original questions posed at the beginning. What does being on a bus for 30+ hours due to the human body. Well it has been awful physically. I mean it has been the most comfortable, and I gave up trying to truly sleep on this thing on Wednesday, but the toll taken has been mental. The lack of sleep is maddening, especially when you can feel you body really wanting to pass out. The view we have had for the majority of the trip has also been a killer. We have done most of this trip in total darkness. On the way there we had daylight from Chicago to Milwaukee, and on the way back it was pitch black by the time we got passed Chicago. So that stretch of road is the only part we have actually been able to see. Looking out the window and seeing only pitch black nothingness starts to grind on you after so many hours.
