Part-Time Sports-Based Youth Development Program Assistant Position Description:As a Coach Across America member, you will use your love and knowledge of sports to serve, teach and support under-resourced youth. You will be part of a dedicated community of youth development professionals at a host organization that provides programming for at-risk youth. Your work will directly address some of the most pressing needs of our nation’s young people: childhood obesity, academic failure and anti-social behavior.During your year of service, you will be assigned to America SCORES Cleveland, a community based SBYD organization which is the nation’s only after-school program that empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. While working with America SCORES Cleveland, your primary role will be serving as a Program Assistant. However, no day will ever be the same. You can expect to wear many different hats and will acquire various, exciting skills during your service year.What You Will Gain: •$2,775.00 education award (for members who complete 900 hours of service)•Coach Training: CAA training in Boston and local SCORES training in Cleveland•Leadership skills•Student loan forbearance (on qualifying student loans)•Access to a large network of SBYD organizations for future career development and networking•Coach Across America is an intense experience and Coaches are asked to go above and beyond each and every day. Being a part of Coach Across America connects our Coaches both with their local communities and a larger national movement of people dedicated to serving youth through sports.Specific Roles and Responsibilities: •Assisting Program & Soccer Director and Education Director in providing high quality youth sports development and literacy programming.•Assisting or substituting for SCORES soccer or writing coaches for practices and lessons.•Performing any duties to make SCORES programming run efficiently such as distributing and collecting after-school supplies, uniforms, evaluations, etc.•Communicating with coaches at the schools to ensure program quality.•Attending and participating in coach trainings.•Assisting with the collection and inputting of poet-athlete evaluation data.•Assisting with the design and implementation of student centered service learning projects throughout the community.•Teaching the rules of soccer and the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.•Overseeing game day logistics and refereeing soccer games.•Assisting in the planning and day-of duties for America SCORES program events including Poetry SLAM!, Fall Frenzy!, Jamboree!, as well as fundraising events.•Leading off-season soccer camps on weekends and winter, spring and summer breaks.•Recruiting volunteers to participate in after-school programming and events.•In addition to site-specific duties, Coach Across America members are also responsible for completing timesheets; reflecting on their work in guided reflection logs; and participating in a National Day of Service.Eligibility Requirements: •United States citizen or permanent resident alien•Ability to commit to 900 hours of part-time service between Sept. 2013- Aug. 2014•Some college/or college degree preferred•At least three years of experience in at least one sport/soccer preferred (coaching experience preferred)•A commitment to sports as a tool for youth development•Previous experience volunteering in a youth development framework•A desire to consider a career in coaching youth or working in a SBYD program•Strong communication and interpersonal skills among diverse constituents•A commitment to community building and volunteer engagement•Excellent organizational ability and ability to work well under pressure•Dependable, flexible, sense of humor•A commitment to improving conditions and providing opportunities for all youth•Access to reliable transportation as program sites are scattered throughout ClevelandTo Apply Or For Additional InformationContact Matthew Williams, Program & Soccer Director at:216-881-7988 or [email protected]
