Pastor’s Corner The Handshake of Peace Let us take a look a look at what the Handshake of Peace is all about. As we greet the people around us, before mass begins when I am the celebrant, we may get out of the pew for a handshake or a wave to say Hello. We are reminded that we pray as a family and do not worship with strangers. The Handshake of Peace is not the same thing. It is not a time to say hello, to greet, and wave, but a time to interiorize our thoughts and actions to see if we are at peace with those in the world, represented by those nearest to us. When we give the peace of Christ to them who represent the world we are saying that we are at peace with all and can then come to the altar to receive Holy Communion worthily. As scripture says Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. This is why we do this before Holy Communion. I plan on having a rummage sale on Friday Oct 3rd from 5-7pm, Saturday the 4th from 12-4:30pm, and Sunday from 10:30-2pm. The times are tentative. The parish rectory at Sacred Heart has collected so many things from furniture and knick-knacks to odds and ends over the years. The sale will take place at the Sacred Heart Parish Center and not everything will have prices as the best price on certain things will come from your bidding on things (more expensive things) on paper. If you have things for the sale here is the deal: For $25 dollars, per table rented, you sell your own things and keep your profits. No food, immoral things, or things against church teaching may be sold. If you are interested in selling your own rummage let Fr. Tom know by Sept. 18th; the more rummage the more people show up. If you want to run the rectory rummage for me, I will give you 10% of what is sold via the parish rummage. The profits will go into savings for future things needed at Sacred Heart. I hope to do the same thing in the spring at St Bernards. People have volunteered to coordinate the sale. Thank you. Fr. Tom
