People are making a huge mistake questioning why blacks in Ferguson, MO are destroying their own communities.To be surprised by what is going on there is to be guilty of the same misguided assumption as those who apply the term black community when speaking of the areas being impacted by the violence, as if a common race somehow translates to a common values system. Nothing could be further from the truth. What makes you think that because those blacks all live in the same community that they all care about the community? Black rioters in Ferguson are simply exhibiting to the rest of the world what is most important to them, as are those blacks who chose not to be participants in such lawless acts. One should never assume that simply because people are of the same race that they have anything at all in community with one another. I am not at all surprised by what is transpiring in Ferguson nor should you. For better or worse, an individuals actions are a direct reflection of his or her values and communities are comprised of individuals. Remember that the next time youre tempted to use the term black community.
