Perhaps my 2nd post here of the day will pass muster as pertaining to the 2nd Amendment. Here is an explanation of someone who knows about the SYG law and has no dog in this fight Lloyd Warford, Capital Conflicts Attorney at Arkansas Public Defender Commissio. I promised myself awhile back I would minimize the politics in my facebook post. So I will be brief. The AG cannot pass a stand your ground law. He does not even have a vote. If David Sterling wants to past a stand your ground law he should run for the state legislature. Now since Sterling passed the bar, I can only assume he understands this so I must conclude he has based his campaign on the hope that most Arkansans are so stupid they dont know the AG has no power to legislate. Second if Sterling wants to know what is wrong with our selfdefense statutes (and there are problems) I and other members of the defense bar who have actually represented people charged in selfdefense situations would be happy to have lunch with him and explain it. The problem is David Sterling has never defended or as far as I know prosecuted a homicide case and I suspect he would not be caught dead at lunch with any criminal defense attorney. None of this is to say I support Leslie Rutledge. I have never heard of her but at least she has not built her entire campaign on the belief that most Arkansans are so stupid they think the AG can pass laws.
