Plate Tectonics, not an everyday thought for most people. Yet all - TopicsExpress

Plate Tectonics, not an everyday thought for most people. Yet all people on God’s green Earth and blue seas are sitting atop these rigid sheets of rock. With twelve large rock plates and several small ones spanning the globe, everyone should be aware of just where they stand. This home planet of ours is constantly evolving. It is amazing how many people exist; even thrive upon the Earth, considering the regular upheaval. All around the world energy is transferred and converted in the inner regions of our planet. This energy is most evident to us in the violent earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and terrifying tsunamis. It brought to mind Romans 8:19-21 “For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.” Is this what we are experiencing, the groaning of the Earth plagued by sin? I believe so. It is almost unbelievable that we can experience a moment of peace on this turbulent globe. Especially when we consider that there is truly no solid ground. But the Earth is massive. It is so large, in fact, that the continental drift between North America and Europe is negligible. But two inches per year does add up. If the Lord should tarry, the future Earthlings may find themselves on continents which are on a collision course with each other. I am intellectually astounded by these truths. It is mind-boggling to meditate on all that tumult encased in what so many people call home. It is a fitting analogy to compare to the social mayhem that we call humanity. What ails us is also inner unrest. When God created the earth He declared it good. It is evident that the Earth experiences the cancer of sin much the same as we do. We should really just pray more often on this third rock from the sun.
