Please allow me a moment to vent... If you are dyeing yarn or fiber and then selling it, and you are using food coloring or drink mixes, you need to tell your buyer that is what it was dyed with. Those are not light, heat, and wash fast the way true dyes are. The buyer will be putting a huge investment into this product and will be disappointed at best, very angry at worst when the finished item loses its color. Next, keep in mind, there is a difference between commercial and professional dyes. Just because you paid for it from a craft supply place, does not make it heat, light, wash fast like a professional dye. The more types of fibers its formulated to dye, the less well it dyes any of them. If a customer that has purchased your dyed work, comes to you with a concern, it might be best to listen and address it. At least make them feel heard when you can see the color on the customers hands from spinning your fiber, its obvious it really didnt rinse clean. The best thing is to be open with your process. Be willing to share what dye you use and what chemical assists. You dont need to go into formulas and details. I might still buy it from you knowing it was food coloring dyed, but I would make sure I would treat it carefully and use it in a gentle way in a project that would preserve and protect the delicate color as much as possible. Thank you... Rant off.
