Please help us support brave #ChildhoodCancer Warrior, Calen, who was diagnosed with Medullablastoma on February of this year. He is in the middle of his chemo treatments and is having some issues with low counts. Please send him some positive thoughts and messages of support on his page at https://facebook/CalenKC Calens story: On Feb 21, 2014 we had to rush Calen to the ER due to intense headache at the back of the head and vomiting. It was very out of character for him and we knew something was wrong. The ER did a CT Scan immediately and found a mass at the back of his head. Calen was admitted and an MRI was done the next morning. On Sunday evening we were finally given all the results. He had a tumor and needed surgery. We were flown to Ft Worth where they scheduled a surgery the next day. On Monday Feb 24 they Neurosurgeon removed a large mass larger than a golf ball. It was a successful surgery but we knew there could be other issues later. The tumor was a Medulloblastoma tumor. We did notice after all was done that he was now suffering from Posterior Fossa Syndrome, which changes how Calen would be, he was very unbalanced, would hardly speak and only wanted to sleep. We were in the hospital for a week. Once we were released from the hospital in Ft Worth we went home to Amarillo where the next day his temp spiked and we ended up back in the hospital. He stayed in the hospital that time 4 days. After being released we had a few days off where coming up next was placing his new port. A port goes into his chest and becomes the place where all IV meds and such go. That surgery was successful and they also did a Spinal Tap to check for tumor cells within the spine. We found out later that his spine was clear of tumor cells. The next week we started having intense pressure in the head, along with low grade fever and vomiting. We drove back down to Ft Worth where they performed 2 Spinal Taps to release the pressure. After all that we were off to Houston to start and complete the radiation part of his protocol. He had to go thru 6 weeks/30 days of radiation and start his chemo. While in Houston he had 6 treatments of chemo. Next up after all that will be chemo for almost a year. There will be 9 cycles and each cycle has its own calendar of medicines and blood tests that will occur. Calen is the youngest of 6 children, 4 of which are adopted. His older bio brother also battled cancer when he was younger. He had Wilms Tumor and had also gone thru surgery, radiation and chemo. #EndChildhoodCancer #GoGoldACCO
