Teachers packed the entrance to House chambers during the morning session, chanting and pounding on the closed doors. Some delegates, including Mike Queen, D-Harrison, spoke out on the House floor against the teachers behavior. Queen said he was embarrassed that teachers had come to the Capitol. Mike Queen, D-Harrison, on the House floor. They said Queen remarked that the teachers were an embarrassment. What they need to be embarrassed about is the Legislature not funding education, said Norma Taylor, president of the Harrison County Education Association. We are very unhappy. We endorsed Mike Queen last year, said Paige Moccia, vice president of the Harrison County Education Association. Harrison teachers walked off the job Thursday without permission, shutting down the school system. She said Queen had a 13 percent voting record on education issues. Were embarrassed by Mike Queen. The teachers will work hard to replace him, Moccia said. Queen is a candidate for Harrison County assessor. Moccia said this is the first year the Harrison teachers group will endorse a candidate for assessor. They will endorse his opponent, Cheryl Romano, Moccia said. Queen then lost a bid for Harrison County assessor by fewer than 200 votes. He blamed the teachers unions who spent $11,000 against him after his comments in the Legislature riled them up.
