Please share with others to help raise awareness. One Stop Drop In Advice Service A new initiative in Sutton Coldfield offering free advice on Carers’ Support, Debt Assistance, Pension Credit, Housing Issues, Attendance and Disability Allowance, Employment & Support Allowance amongst other matters, will open its doors for the first time next Friday, 1 November. The new Advice Service Café will be based within the Our Place Community Hub, Farthing Lane, Sutton Coldfield from 10.30am until 1.30 on a fortnightly basis. The initiative is the brainchild of Shane Young, Birmingham North Area Manager, Age Concern Birmingham. “Since Our Place Community Hub opened two years ago, it has become apparent that there is a need in Sutton Coldfield to try and bring many of the support agencies together under one roof, at the same time, to provide much needed advice to residents within the town. “We’re going to offer a relaxed informal environment for people to drop in and seek advice across a wide range of topics. There will be no need to book an appointment. Initially representatives from Age Concern, IAG Job Club and Carer’s UK Sutton Coldfield will be on hand to provide support and assistance and the plan is to bring other support agencies on board in the New Year. “The advice will be free of charge however, there will be a small charge for refreshments, to help us cover room hire and promotional literature costs. “Another local agency which provides support to people with learning difficulties, Sutton Support Services has generously offered to bake fresh cakes for us to sell and generate additional funds.” The Advice Service Café will run between 10.30am & 1.30pm on the following Friday’s until the start of the New Year: November 1st, 15th & 29th; December 13th and January 3rd. Shane added: “Many people who need assistance and advice are unaware of the support mechanisms which exist. We’re going to try and help them through the maze to ensure they get the support they are entitled to.
