Please take a break from planning your frocks for tomorrow night and read this touching story about our little Lily Mae. No mother should suffer such pain upon the birth of their baby. Lets do what women do best tomorrow; oggle men, drink cocktails and spend loads of money all for a fantastic cause xxx Lily Mae was born on 30th October 2013 at St James. After already giving birth to two perfect babies I expected the third to be the same. After having three very smiley photographs taken I looked down & screamed- at first glance I thought her leg was coming from her shoulder. I couldnt look down again for a while. No one had noticed except me- not my mum, my husband or my midwife who have delivered Lily. The next few hours felt like weeks as Lily was scanned, X-rayed, had blood tests & was prodded & poked then taken to LGI for more tests the next day. It was heartbreaking. My perfect world came down with a crash. At our 20 week scan we were told- she is perfect. She has 10 fingers & 10 toes. Every parent asks this question and its always a relief to hear they have. But it wasnt true this time. I was devastated- it took a while to sink in but when it did I cried & cried. Phone calls & texts came flooding in the next day as I had a planned induction so baby had to have arrived. I couldnt reply to them all. Lily was born in the middle of the night & the top consultant working in special care came to see us- her first words were Ive never seen anything like this before My previous thought that Id given birth to a freak were flashing through my mind. The charity Reach has helped us a great deal since & has shown us that Lily is not the only one. We are fortunate that Lily is otherwise healthy & has a smile for everyone. Xx
