Police Officers Houses The government is planning to build 25,000 houses for police and prison warders to solve along lasting housing problems. Speaking when she toured Nanyuki Prison, Coordination Principal Secretary Josephta Mukobe said the prisons will get 5000 housing units while the rest will be reserved for the police. Mukobe noted that they were looking for private partnership for the exercise that will see the livelihood of the officers improved. The PS who was on a tour of prisons in Rift valley and Eastern provinces, said that the institutions have huge chunks of land that should be used to maximize profits and deal with the issue of over-reliance from the government. She noted that products from the prison department have a history of durability and well manufactured urging Kenyans to be their customers. At the same time Mukobe said the state will not give up part of the Nanyuki GK prison compound that the Laikipia government is claiming to be a market. She said the Nanyuki prison has been in existent since the 1950s and claims by the county government who started surveying the market land are not valid. Mukobe was accompanied by commissioner of prisons Isaiah Osugo. She later toured the 50-acre Nanyuki GK prison farm a few kilometers from Nanyuki town. Ends
