Police counter BSF’s ‘self defense’ claim Jammu, July 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police has strongly rejected the ‘self defense’ theory projected by Border Security Force (BSF) after opening fire at civilians in Gool area, killing four persons and injuring around 42 others on Thursday. Well informed sources told Greater Kashmir that the preliminary report submitted by the State police and JK’s own intelligence wing, CID, has pointed out that the firing from the BSF camp was uncalled for and State police should have been instead allowed to handle the situation. “The State government has been informed that the firing from BSF personnel was so intense and indiscriminate that even a BSF man and 2 cops received bullet injuries,” sources told Greater Kashmir. They added that even the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Javed Ahmed, who was present on the spot, had to take cover to save himself from the stray bullets. The State agencies, sources said, have further pointed out that killing of government lecturer Manzoor Ahmed, in the first instance, clearly looked to be a target killing. “He was shot in the head leading to his death on the spot,” sources said. Most of the villagers, they said, injured in the firing have received bullet injuries above their abdomen “which also shows that the firing was indiscriminate and without application of mind.
