Police deal with multiple cases of alleged bad behavior September 6, 2014 By PHILIP A. HOLMES (pholmes@sungazette) During a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend, Jared Ray Blair allegedly told the woman, If you leave me, I will kill you, city police said in court papers. The 33-year-old Blair covered the womans mouth with his hand, preventing Patricia Ludwig from screaming, as he punched her in her left side at least two times, police said. The assault occurred at the couples home at 2351 W. Fourth St. about 5 p.m. on Aug. 30. Ludwig reported the incident to police the next morning and Blair was arrested within hours and charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. Following his arraignment before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley, Blair was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $7,500 bail. This was just one of several recent arrests city police made. In another case, a Tenth Avenue woman who invited her boyfriend over to her home for dinner on Aug. 30 ended up getting attacked by the man after he arrived at her door drunk, court records state. An argument between Mark Alan Kettler and Gretchen Gearhart inside 622 Tenth Ave. about 7:30 p.m. quickly escalated and Kettler became violent, police said. Kettler grabbed Gearhart by her arms and slammed her against the wall and door near the front of the house, police were told. After he shoved the woman on the couch, he grasped her throat and threatened to kill her, police said. The assault only ended when the womans son came to her defense by throwing things at Kettler, police said. As he left the house, Kettler told her Dont call police, or else ..., court records state. Kettler turned himself in Tuesday to face charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. Following his arraignment before District Judge James Carn, he was released on $25,000 bail. In another criminal case, Samuel Eugene Schell V turned himself in Wednesday morning to face city police charges of allegedly stabbing another man, identified as his nephew, one year ago. Agent Trent Peacock has charged Schell, 45, of 419 Locust St., with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering and possession of an instrument of crime for allegedly stabbing Damon Jackson inside Schells home on Sept. 1, 2013. The two had been involved in some kind of horseplay that turned into a fight, which resulted in Schell getting a steak knife and allegedly stabbing Jackson twice in the abdomen, Peacock said. Initially taken to Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Jackson was transferred to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was treated and later discharged. During questioning at Geisinger, Jackson was reluctant to talk and initially claimed he didnt remember how he was stabbed. He didnt wish to prosecute anyone for assaulting him, Peacock said. However, Jackson later changed his mind after the stabbing left him disabled, unable to work, Peacock said. Jackson also underwent multiple surgeries for which he received excessive medical bills, he added. Jackson later told police that at the time of the stabbing, he had been pressured by family not to press charges. Following his arraignment before Carn, Schell was released on $50,000 bail. In another case, Quentin Arman Young, 26, of 1050 Memorial Ave., was arrested and jailed on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a disturbance outside his home about 11:40 p.m. on Aug. 30, city police said. Young was yelling and throwing things from his porch out into the street, police said. Following his arraignment before Lepley, he was jailed in lieu of $7,500 bail.
