Police have appealed to the public for information after a woman was assaulted and robbed in her home at Tweed Heads this morning. About 5.15am today (Thursday 7 August 2014), a 69-year-old woman was awoken by a loud noise from the lounge room of her Adelaide Street home unit. After entering the bedroom the male demanded the woman get out of bed. He then pulled her out of bed and allegedly struck her in the face. The woman told the male that she had no money and went to her handbag and handed over a small amount of cash. After fleeing through the front door of the unit with the cash, the male was followed by the woman to the garbage bin area. He then fled from the area on foot. The woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault. Police from Tweed Byron Local Area Command were contacted and patrolled the area but could not locate the man. A crime scene was established which was examined by forensic specialists. Police have been given a brief description of a male they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries. He has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, young with a slim build and of average height. At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark chequered hoodie which covered his head and face.
