Popping on briefly just to wish my brothers and sisters around the world working in retail (and particularly in my old stomping grounds at PC World) the best of luck today on what is most likely the most hectic shopping day of the year where tensions always run high within the general shopping public. With it being so busy and so much stress during the holidays, shoppers can easily forget that folks who work in retail are just like them. Theyre not a faceless, nameless conduit for sales and are only limited to what they can do with the time/resources given. No matter how busy it is and how stressed you are, I can guarantee you they are 100x worse. But they will still serve you with a smile and do their best to make sure you have the best/most efficient experience possible, so please dont forget to extend that courtesy back to them. You would not believe how far a friendly face, a joke and most importantly a sincere thank you goes when the store is jam packed and staff have dealt with multiple tense situations for the majority of their shift with no break. So to anyone shopping today; try to be patient and if theyre smiling, smile back! The happier they are, the more willing theyre gonna be to go that extra mile for you. You could be the 20th customer in a row theyve had to serve non-stop but the 1st that made them smile and believe me when I tell you that will stick with them. And to anyone working; Keep your chin up and remember that no matter how rough it may get, theres all the comforts of home awaiting you when the day is done. The bad experiences are done when the day is over, what you love to do outside of work is ALWAYS waiting for you. That being said, I hope my comrades in PC World have a smooth day today, lord knows theyve earned it. Happy Boxing Day, everyone! Get in on those deals!
