Opening-game nerves and stout defenses were the story of the game on a hot, humid night as the Rebels gave coach Jackie ONeal a 21-13 win to start his 27th season in charge at Reeltown. I think it was first-game jitters and the humidity, ONeal said. This is the hottest it has been in two weeks. Childersburg turned the ball over three times in the first 13 minutes, but Reeltown could only capitalize on a 1-yard touchdown by junior running back Cody Martin to give the Rebels a 7-0 lead. A 30-yard punt return by Frank Wilkerson set up the Tigers at Reeltowns 10-yard line. On the next play, quarterback Zack Lightsey found Jarius Patterson open on the sideline for the tying touchdown. Reeltown started the second half pounding the ball on the ground, driving 79 yards on its opening drive for a touchdown as quarterback Bradley McKeithen found Cade Giddens open on a fourth down to give the Rebels a 13-7 lead. A 49-yard run by running back Ariko Stewart stretched the Reeltown lead to 21-7 after a successful 2-point conversation. In the first half we looked a little ragged, ONeal said. Our defense played tough and we made some changes offensively at the half. Stewart led the Rebels with 10 carries for 77 yards and one touchdown, while Martin rushed for 58 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown. Childersburg quarterback Zack Lightsey threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort. ***SCORING SUMMARY*** Childersburg 0 7 0 6 — 13 Reeltown 0 7 14 0— 21 2nd Quarter RHS: Cody Martin 1 run (kick good), 7:48 CHS: Jarius Patterson 10 pass from Zack Lightsey (kick good), 0:58 3rd Quarter RHS: Cade Giddens 5 pass from Bradley McKeithen (kick failed), 5:11 RHS: Ariko Stewart 49 run (2-point conversion good), 2:26 4th Quarter CHS: Hunter McCain 14 pass from Lightsey (kick failed), 1:08
