Posted by Terry Smith earlier today: OLD GUARD = CORRUPTION! Break the cycle of the Old Guard mentality of theivery! On the Navajo REZ: Navajo gets elected. Old Guard comes to newly elected and begins to teach the ways of the Old Guard corrupted mentality. Pretty soon newly elected sees nothing wrong with theivery and corruption! And eventually take part in the theivery and corruption! One of the Old Guard is careless and gets caught with his hands in the cookie jar! NO PROBLEM! (Careless one) he or she is tared and feather publicly and sacraficed? BUT then that person (Careless) is rewarded by being given lease properties in a community; political favors; elected to boards on big Navajo entities and Navajo Government run businesses; also given green light to consult on the REZ; and also given access to the council chambers? Then the cycle repeats its self? OLD GUARD is a way of thinking on our REZ? It has nothing with the elders on our REZ! It has nothing with the elders on our REZ! It has nothing with the elders on our REZ! Except sometimes SOME of the OLD GUARD are elderly!
