Power of Attorney. A very important document. Very useful to avoid court. HOWEVER - A Power of Attorney...DIES when you die... Thats right. Once the person who created that power of attorney has died - the agent no longer has any authority. Whether it is a Financial Power of Attorney... Or a bank account set up with a person as a Power of Attorney... At the moment of death there is no more power. SO - while a Power of Attorney is a very useful document & one that rounds out a truly comprehensive estate plan - it is only for lifetime use...
