Premier League: Top five manager rankings.. 5. Manuel Pellegrini - Manchester City Having led Real Madrid to their highest-ever points haul and guided unfancied La Liga duo Villarreal and Malaga into the latter stages of the Champions League, Chilean Pellegrini clearly arrived at the Etihad Stadium with an impressive pedigree. Fans will expect far better of Pellegrini going forward given the considerable funds he lavished on a variety of stars during the summer transfer window. 4. David Moyes - Manchester United Despite his reputation having seemingly been decimated in recent months, it is crucial not to forget the years of impressive service that Moyes gave to Everton. At Goodison Park, the Scot often had to work on a shoestring budget yet consistently led the Toffees to defy lowly expectations. 3. Andre Villas-Boas - Tottenham Villas-Boas looked as if his time in English football was over before it really truly began following his short and unsuccessful stint at Chelsea. However, he has experienced somewhat of a renaissance at White Hart Lane and is looking to assert the North London outfit as credible title contenders. 2. Jose Mourinho - Chelsea If these particular rankings were just focused upon previous achievements, then controversial Portuguese Mourinho would have won at an absolute canter. Having won two Champions League titles alongside a plethora of domestic trophies, the charismatic 50-year-old is undeniably a huge success. However, we are strongly taking into account the opening stages to the current season so Mourinho just missed out on top spot. 1. Arsene Wenger - Arsenal To see Wenger top such a list may have been unthinkable for some disgruntled Arsenal fans prior to the start of the new campaign. With supporters evidently sick and tired of the club losing several of their star performers without seeing any real effort to secure adequate replacements, it appeared that Wengers 17-year stint in North London may be coming to an end. However, all that has changed radically in just a matter of weeks with Arsenal - opening day defeat to Aston Villa aside - having enjoyed a truly excellent start to the new campaign after which they sit top of the table.
