President Mahama visits Burkina Faso President John Dramani Mahama, in his capacity as Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will this morning be in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to meet all the stakeholders in that country. The visit follows the receipt of a report from a Joint Mission of ECOWAS, the African Union and the United Nations that was sent to Burkina Faso. The Mission, which was in that country from October 30, returned to brief President Mahama last Sunday, before returning to Ouagadougou on Monday. President Mahama approved the recommendationsof the Joint Mission and reaffirmed the subregional group, ECOWAS support for a peaceful restoration of constitutional order. He has also been engaging with the stakeholders including the military and called for a consensual solution in line with the provisions of the constitution of Burkina Faso. President Mahama has invited two of his colleagues, President Macky Sall of Senegal and President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria to join him on the Mission to Burkina Faso today. ECOWAS has assured Burkina Faso of its readiness to work with them to restore legitimate transitional order and finding sustainable solutions to the impasse and work towards organizing free and credible elections. President Mahama will return home later today.
