Prior to the conquest of Ngare Raumati, Patukeha Rangatira Wharerahi lived here seasonally at Orokawa, Ipīpiri. The whenua along with the various Pā that were located here, were gifted to Wharerahi as a dowry for the marriage with Ngare Raumati Cheiftainess Pahū. Post conquest, Wharerahi continued to live here seasonally as well as other parts of the newly conquered territory. The large majority of Orokawa remains in the possession of his descendants.
