Priory Group in talks to buy psychiatric rival Cygnet The private hospital operator, best known for its celebrity clientele, is in talks to buy Cygnet Healthcare from the man behind the renowned clinics turnaround in the 1980s. The Priory, the private hospital group famous for treating celebrities with exhaustion, is in talks to buy Cygnet Healthcare, which was started by the same man who turned around the renowned clinic during the 1980s. It is thought that a sale of Cygnet, which runs 17 mental health care and addiction centres across the UK, could fetch around £200m. It would also crystallise a significant windfall for Cygnet’s majority shareholders, founder John Hughes and former chief executive Ken Wilson. Mr Hughes, an industry veteran, once boasted that he had written to the Guinness Book of Records to try to claim the record for the number of psychiatric units one person had been in, although not as a patient. telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/privateequity/11037997/Priory-Group-in-talks-to-buy-psychiatric-rival-Cygnet.html
