Prodigal Gov Aregbesola! Spends N19m To Demolish Fakunle High Sch, Sells Land To Tinubu For N110m Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has finally sold the land occupied by Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Oshogbo to his godfather, Senator Bola Tinubu for N110 million. That was after using N19 million Osun State fund to demolish the school to pave way for Tinubu’s take-over of the land to build Shoprite. Rev. Timothy Fakunle, founded of the famous Fakunle Comprehensive High in 1956, while Governor Aregbesola, who demolished the school was born in 1957. The school was a year older than Aregbesola. Already, debris of the demolished school buildings have been cleared, in readiness for the commencement of construction works. Before the demolition, some concerned alumni members of the School had in a leaflet distributed in Osogbo, including the state secretariat, Abere charged the state Governor Aregbesola, not to demolish the school, saying it was going to inflict pains on the students. They accused the state government of allegedly planning to demolish the school, which they argued, was antithetical to the spirit of Rev. Ade Fakunle, who founded the school in 1956. The family of the late Rev. Timothy Fakunle, also opposed plan by the Osun State Government to demolish the school. The family stated its stance on the issue in a letter to the governor. The letter was signed by one of the children of the late proprietor, Pastor Victor Fakunle. The Fakunle family said that the location of the school was an ideal site for the mega schools being built by the state government. It said it was thus surprised that the school was excluded from being turned to a mega school. The family demanded that the governor should return the school to the family for proper management of the legacy of their late father. The Fakunles also said that although they were not deriving any financial gain from the school, its existence alone was a source of joy to the family. The letter read, “The entire Fakunle family has noticed sadly the state government’s exclusion of Fakunle Comprehensive High School from the schools to be used under the current schools reformation in the state on the excuse that prevailing developmental circumstances would not permit the school’s continued existence. “We have observed that with the strategic location of the school, it would have been the most ideal site for a mega school, a good showcase for the high premium your administration places on educating the child in a healthy, conducive learning environment. Why then the choice of Fakunle Comprehensive High School for obliteration? “We do not want anything to tamper with the education legacy passed down by our late father, Rev. Timothy Adetunji Fakunle. Fakunle family is interested in taking over the control of the school as witnessed in other states including Lagos.” However, despite the public outcry, Governor Aregbesola went ahead to demolish the school, spending N19 million Osun State tax payers money.
