Proposed Quarry Expansion: Recently, the Galasso Company rezoned a portion of their land to start quarrying on it. Galasso needs to complete a few more steps before they can atually start working the land. The most recent activity is they submitted an application to the Inland Wetlands Commission. There will be a public hearing on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:30 pm in the Senior/Community Center. If the request is approved, Galasso is likely to file a permit application with the Planning and Zoning board, to be followed by a hearing in January or February. To provide information to the public, the East Granby Land Trust website is providing public documents. They can be seen or downloaded at eglt.org/public/quarry/documents.html . The board of directors has decided that the Land Trust is not currently advocating for either side in this controversial matter. We expect individual Land Trust members and friends to exercise their right to express their opinions. The website will only contain relevant information, not opinions. As we receive additional information, we will share it at the page at the above address. Another important public hearing will be with the Planning and Zoning Board, about enacting a regulation protecting the ridge line on and near the Metacomet Trail. This hearing will be on December 10. Watch for more details.
