Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Luke 15:31-32“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” This morning my puppy, Chester, and his pal next door succeeded in digging a hole big enough for Chester to go play on the other side of the fence. This is something Chester thought he wanted. The two dogs love to run up and down the fence or lay and chew on a small tree that grew entwined in the fence together. Our dog is 20 pounds the neighbor’s dog is 60 pounds. So when they play with the fence between them, Chester has a means of escape. However when he finally made it over to the other yard he realized he did not like it quite as much. I discovered him over there when I heard a yelp. I chuckled, as the neighbor’s dog is a sweet dog. When I went to the fence, my puppy was ready for me to pick him up and he stayed in my arms for awhile. Safe in the arms of his owner, he found that it is not greener on the other side after all. How often are we like that? We walk away from God just a little to experience life in the world and just when we get there we call and ask for help to get back on track, to get back in God’s care. It was just a little scarier than we thought. We need to remember that it is safer in God’s loving care.
