Question addressed in this video: First of all, thank you for your videos. I have anorexia nervosa and tried to recover by following 811 diet then I actually noticed that I was too obsessed with food eating that way, now when I feel like I should stop restricting and just let it go, its like I cant because it feels so weird to me not to have any rules regarding food and let that healthy eating mentality go. I also feel kind of confused. So, what youre trying to say is that healthy eating is eating according to your cravings, not labeling food as bad or good? For example I love eating fried chicken and pasta for dinner but the truth is that after eating it I dont feel as physically good as after a plate of zucchini noodles. What is a healthy option here? Eating fried chicken because I truly enjoy it or making a healthier option and eat grilled with veggies instead for example. My answer: yes, i think healthy eating should be by listening to our body. and its true we should not label food good or bad, but there are just foods that we like and dont like and foods that make us feel good and foods that dont make us feel good. so if you dont feel good in your body eating fried chicken then normal eaters would not eat it. but if you come from past of dieting and restriction then you are not a normal eater yet and for you it might take a recovery period first until you get back your normal hunger cues and your body stops feeling deprived (thats why you may feel like you need to eat the fried chicken eventhough you dont feel good after). i went through recovery and now i can truly listen to my body, if i feel bad after eating something i normally wont even crave it anymore. and the other thing is that if you have been eating zucchini noodles for dinner than your body has lost the proper ability to digest some foods and you may feel heavy. but if you reintroduce some foods your body can learn to digest them again. read this too, maybe it helps: followthefruitfly/the-raw-curse-and-digestive-issues/ so basically if i were you i would eat the fried chicken and pasta as much as i wanted. the worst enemy is restriction. so if i eat this food every day and i show my body that i can have it as much as i want then in time, as my body recovers from previous restriction, my body will either learn to digest it or not make me crave it if i feel bad every time. thats what recovery does to your hunger cues and cravings eventually.
