RALLY DAY 7 – CAPRIVI HOUSEBOAT SAFARI LODGE TO THE WATERFRONT - TopicsExpress

RALLY DAY 7 – CAPRIVI HOUSEBOAT SAFARI LODGE TO THE WATERFRONT (SAFPAR EXCELLENCE) This was promised to be quite an interesting day, as we needed to cross 6 borders in Africa . We were told that the road through Zambia to Livingstone was moer toe. The first border we reached was the Namibian, nothing interesting happened here. Thereafter it was time for Botswana the first time. Here we stopped at the gate where you have to walk onto the (cannot be established thing) for foot and mouth disease control. The lady here was very friendly and she wanted us to buy some of her self made souveniers, from her little shop next to the road there. Then as we got the camera out, she was going crazy and hanging on to the NAM X-STREAM guys for some great shots, check out the pictures on FB or the webpage . She totally forgot to have another look if we did not carry any fruits and meat with us. The Botswana immigration point was a rather lengthy process as we had some other cars before us, but it went smooth without any troubles. Now we were in the Chobe National park, and the first thing we saw was elephants. We passed through it quite quickly and left Botswana again in a jiffy. Now it was time to go into Zimbabwe, to our astonishment, all went very smooth at the border. Here in Zimbabwe, we saw the most elephants during the whole day and the road was in a very good condition. Now we had already passed four of the six border posts for the day. The next two that came up were quite funny, because it was the shortest and longest one we had. We arrived at the Zimbabwe post, and the gentleman behind the counter was in quite a rush to stamp everyone’s passport to leave Zimbabwe. Within 1 minute we had left the country, the quickest border crossing. We drove over the Vic Falls bridge and there they were, the majestic Victoria Falls, what a great sight. What we did not now by that time was, that we were approaching our longest border crossing, Zambia. We stood here for 1.5 hours, what a schlepp. Immigration was quite quick, but then came third party insurance, carbon emission tax, and the car and trailer. Later each one of us was standing at a different counter and we were passing our papers from one side to the other. But we managed it, not like the group that was there before us, they spent nearly 5 hours at that border post. We then finally arrived at The Waterfront (Safpar excellence) our campsite for the next two nights. We got a nice little spot and it was time for a KWV first, because now we were gatvoll for borders. Mark and Oliver had a few beers with some other Teams at the bar, but they tucked in not too late as it was going to be shoe drop time the next morning.
