RE: President Mahama summons ECOWAS leaders to discuss Boko Haram Heads of State and Governments of the West African sub-region are expected to attend a one-day Extraordinary Session tommorrow Friday, 30th May, in Accra, to be chaired by President John Dramani Mahama, in his capacity as the current Chair of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government. The one-day summit is the first to be hosted by President Mahama since his election in February this year as Chair of ECOWAS. The discussions are expected to focus on issues of mutual and urgent concern, including the security situations in northern Mali and parts of Nigeria. President Mahama is scheduled to open the Session with a welcome address, to be followed by a statement from President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr Kadré Désiré Ouedraogo. The leaders will then enter into closed-door deliberations and a Final Communiqué is expected at the end of the one-day meeting. Source: Media Office Flagstaff House Communications Bureau Office of the President Flagstaff House Kanda- Accra Ghana Kwadwo Boakye; for several weeks since Boko Haram kidnapped about 200 High school girls, this is the time Ecowas is summoning meeting to discuss this? Technically the timing for this meeting is too late. As at now, we have America and British Troops in Nigeria working with the Nigeria Military to rescue these innocent girls. So I ask which of the Ecowas countries has sent their military to support Nigeria as at now? If outside countries could quickly sent their troops and other support to Nigeria and no African has done that as at now, then I ask what is our fate? Sometimes I am tempted to say Europeans and Americans are quick to help us in crisis like this than our own neighboring countries, which I believe I am not far from right? We may have our own views towards America or Europe but the point is who is right there to help? If we claim we are united Africans who cannot help one country in times of need like this all other things being equal, then I question the unity we want on the continent? Currently, I am not far from right to say Nigeria is left alone to solve his own problems, and what Ecowas and AU are doing is to show a mere concern to this crisis. who is is an ally? when the people in Crimea of Ukraine needed a support from Russia, within some few days Russians were present in Crimea. I am just using this as a scenario, When Israel need America support, they get it within a twinkling of an eye, when North Korea threatened to invade south Korea, America showed their presence as an Ally to south Korea. please we are all a witness to these examples I am citing. Just compare this to African countries we claim to be neighbors, allies, family etc? We live in a country and a continent where some of our leaders are good in organizing late meetings at the time Western powers has come to take control. The time has come for us to stop preaching theories and face reality. AFRICA FOR AFRICANS, UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, etc are becoming like a dream we are not committed to show to the world? some Leaders are doing their own thing, and the citizens are crying their own cry whiles those who are taking our resources to get their own profits are doing it. This is the state of our continent now. Things are falling apart all other things being equal. Me think, this Ecowas meeting is not necessary all other things being equal. Nigeria need troops on the ground and which country is ready to send their troops to Nigeria? currently any effort by Ecowas or AU will be less significant to the crisis because America and Britain are already there to do what we were expecting Ecowas and AU to do. Thanks for your opinion
