RECENTLY FUNDED GRANTS BY FRIENDS OF ALBANIA Gjirokastër: Afternoon Camp for Roma Children Laurel Duncan, Health, Group 16 Duncan and colleagues designed an after-school life skills “camp” for children from Zinxhira, one of Gjirokastër’s underprivileged Roma neighborhoods. They are building on their experience hosting a three-day camp for Roma youth during the summer of 2014. Camp activities will be held once a week for twenty weeks and include sports, art, health lessons, and sessions encouraging community and civic engagement. Përmet: Nurse Trainings Amber Wunderlich, Health, Group 16 Wunderlich and several community counterparts are organizing trainings for nurses from Përmet and ten surrounding villages.The FOA grant will support the cost of transportation to and from these trainings. Based on the results of a needs assessment survey, thefirst round of trainings will focus on domestic violence and mental health.
