REMEMBER YOURSELF The word remember first appears in English in the early 14th century. And it means keep in mind, retain in the memory. This word is derived from the Old French word REMEMBRER which means remember, recall, bring to mind. This Old French word in turn comes from the Latin REMEMORARI which means recall to mind, remember. And this Latin word is composed of RE again and MEMORARI which means be mindful of, and which in turn is derived from MEMOR or mindful. ... So to remember, at its most basic root, is to engage in an act of Mindfulness. And to Self-Remember or Remember Oneself is to again, be Mindful of oneself. So take a moment and again be Mindful, not just of your body, but Mindful of your body, here and now, in this present environment. Sense your body from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head, from side-to-side and front to back. Sense the position of your body in space. Sense your body as one organic whole. Sense your entire body breathing. However, dont just stop at sensing your whole body. Also become Mindful of your eyes. Become Mindful of them as specialized organs of perception that are currently receiving a certain range and type of visual impressions -- while also becoming aware of your ears as organs that are now receiving a certain range of auditory impressions -- and your nose as an organ now receiving certain olfactory impressions -- and your mouth as an organ now receiving certain gustatory impressions. Become aware of the sights, sounds, smells and tastes these physical organs in your body are currently receiving -- while sensing your body breathing -- right here and right now, in this present moment. Step up from the state of Waking Sleep into the state Personal Consciousness and as George Gurdjieff once said: Remember Yourself Always and Everywhere.
