RESEARCH RESEARCH! Get involved NOW! :) - Deadline is extended to this Wednesday 9/18/13. SAIRO is currently recruiting students to participate in a year-long research project exploring the experiences of first-year international undergraduates at UCLA. Students from diverse backgrounds and all majors are encouraged to apply to join a small undergraduate research team and gain valuable qualitative research experience. You do not have to be an international student or have had previous research experience to participate. Members of the research team will conduct interviews with international students, analyze data, and present results from the study to UCLA administrators and the UCLA community more broadly. Logistics and Requirements: Participants in the Undergraduate Research Partnership Initiative will enroll in a SRP contract course for Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters and earn 2 units of academic credit per quarter for participation in the project. While SRP enrollment is quarterly, it is hoped that all participants will commit to the project through Spring Quarter 2013 so that they can contribute to both the analysis and reporting aspects of the study. Participants must be available for Research Team meetings on Fridays from 1pm-3pm and for a retreat with research team members on Saturday, November 9th from 9am-5pm. Although the project is open to all undergraduates, students interested in international student issues and experiences, sociology, and education fields may find this project of particular relevance to their academic interests. Interested students need to submit the following items: • Resume or CV • Short answers to the following questions: o How would participation in this research project benefit you? o How would conducting a study on first-year international student experiences contribute to your educational goals? o How do you see your strengths, skills, and previous experiences (research, academic, or otherwise) contributing to the successful completion of a research project on first-year international students at UCLA? o To assist us in selecting a research team that represents a wide range of student identities, to the extent that you feel comfortable doing so, please provide the following information: *Gender *Race/Ethnicity *Major *Are you an international student? If so, what country are you from? Materials should be submitted no later than 5pm on September 17th to: Kristen McKinney, PhD Director, Student Affairs Information and Research Office B52 Student Activities Center Campus Code: 132406 Email: [email protected] Phone: (310) 794-7860 Applicants will be notified by September 20th regarding whether or not they have been selected.
