RHAPSODY OF REALITIES DAILY DEVOTIONAL: LET THE SPIRIT GUIDE YOU! TUESDAY-;15TH-;OCTOBER-;2013 WITH*PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME* What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1 Corinthians 14:15) One of the numerous benefits of praying in other tongues is the fact that it gets you synchronized with the will, purpose, and timing of God. Those who havent understood this awesome benefit of speaking in tongues would rather use vain repetitions; numerous words in their understanding to try to express themselves to God. The Lord Jesus already pointed out the fruitlessness of praying that way: But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7). What do you want to tell a God who knows everything? He gave us the ability to pray in other tongues. When you pray in tongues, your spirit is stirred to know the mind of God. In 1 Corinthians 14:15, the Apostle Paul said, ...I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also.... He gave pre-eminence to praying in other tongues because that way, the Spirit stirs your heart and guides you to pray the will of the Father. Sometimes, some Christians unwittingly ask God for things that could ruin them. That wouldnt be the case if they had prayed fervently in other tongues: theyd have been guided by the Spirit as to what to ask for, and how! The Spirit helps our limitations in prayer; He bears us up in our weaknesses. He grants us the right spiritual expressions in our communion with the Father: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26). PRAYER: Dear Father, I thank you for the tremendous blessings and impact of your Word and the ministry of the Spirit in my life. My spirit is energized and sensitized to know your will, purpose, and direction for me; and I walk in the path of divine destiny, fulfilling your perfect will for me, in Jesus Name. Amen. FURTHER STUDY: 1 Corinthians 14:14-15(KJV) 14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (CEV) 14 For example, if I use an unknown language in my prayers, my spirit prays but my mind is useless. 15 Then what should I do? There are times when I should pray with my spirit, and times when I should pray with my mind. Sometimes I should sing with my spirit, and at other times I should sing with my mind. (ESV) 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. (GNT) 14 For if I pray in this way, my spirit prays indeed, but my mind has no part in it. 15 What should I do, then? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray also with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will sing also with my mind. (AMP) 14 For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody]. 15 Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also. 1 Corinthians 14:39(KJV) 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. (CEV) 39 My friends, be eager to prophesy and dont stop anyone from speaking languages that others dont know. (ESV) 39 So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. (GNT) 39 So then, my friends, set your heart on proclaiming Gods message, but do not forbid the speaking in strange tongues. (AMP) 39 So [to conclude], my brethren, earnestly desire and set your hearts on prophesying (on being inspired to preach and teach and to interpret God’s will and purpose), and do not forbid or hinder speaking in [unknown] tongues. Jude 1:20(KJV) 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (CEV) 20 Dear friends, keep building on the foundation of your most holy faith, as the Holy Spirit helps you to pray. (ESV) 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, (GNT) 20 But you, my friends, keep on building yourselves up on your most sacred faith. Pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, (AMP) 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit; DAILY SCRIPTURE READING PLAN: 1 Year Reading Plan: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-28, Isaiah 42-43 2 Year Reading Plan: John 6:1-14, 1 Kings 22
