RUBBISH Sometimes, life is rubbish. And sometimes, its REALLY rubbish. And in those moments, trying to be OK, Trying to do Christian Trying to keep going Trying to fake it till you make it Is like trying to stuff a landfill site Into a single wheelie bin. It doesnt matter how hard we shove, How long we struggle, How much we pack in there, Were never going to hide it all, And what we do hide....well.... No matter how long we sit on the lid and hope We know Someday its going to blow. Sometimes the rubbish in our life Isnt even our rubbish. We pick up other peoples, Because its cluttering up the place and putting others off, Because we see someone else struggling under the weight of it, Because at first it doesnt look like rubbish, Out of sheer force of habit, Or as the ultimate cover-up for the bits that are our own. But rubbish is rubbish And it mounts up - then mountains up. Faith can move mountains, yes. But we dont want to bring that rubbish to God - Oh, how we dont! We dont want to trail it into the light, Up to the altar. We dont want to stink up his house. We dont want to remind him of all the reasons were a bad bet In the first place. But hes not going to come and snatch it from us, oh no, Therell be no tug-of-war: Hes not going to force the issue. Instead, hell just quietly move in, Like a cleaner into the house of a hoarder, And wait, and sit with us amid the clutter and the chaos of it And the shame and the stink of it Until we realise how little room he has, Until we feel the need to make things better, Until we let him dirty his hands. And then, he helps us, To clear the clearable, Clean the cleanable, Dump the dumpable, Fix the fixable, Use the usable, And then.... and then.... To adjust to the immovable, Endure the unendurable, Make beauty from the ugly And testimony of the shameful. So....how much longer Are we going to sit on that lid...?
