RURA revisits transport fares following fall in fuel prices The country’s regulatory body, Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority-RURA has revisited public transport fares following the recent announcement in the reduction of pump prices by Ministry of Trade and Industry. The Ministry in December last year announced a slash in pump prices to Rwf 895 down from Rwf1,030 per litre, prompting optimism that cost of transport would go down to allow consumers keep enough to save. According to a statement from the regulator, the transport fares have been revised downwards effective 6th January where a public vehicle will charge rwf18 per kilometer down from Rwf20 since it was last revised in 2013. The statement indicated that the new tariffs were based on routes, their status, traffic flow in terms of congestion, which h however saw fares on most critical routs in the city remain unchanged while upcountry routes got a reduction of between Rwf100- Rwf200. rwandatransport/2015/01/rura-revisits-transport-fares-following-fall-in-fuel-prices/
