Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Beware of going to extremes (in religion), for those before you were only destroyed through excessiveness. [An-Nasai] Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said to them, By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers). [Sahih Bukhari] Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Mankind will not perish till they make excuses for their conduct to themselves. [Mishkat] The worst kind of deception is self deception. There is very little hope for a persons success in any sphere of his or her life, in relationships, in religion or in their careers, till they view themselves and their shortcomings realistically. Only then can they improve themselves. Narrated Mujahid (Radi-Allahu anhu): Abdullah bin Umar said, Allahs Apostle (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) took hold of my shoulder and said, Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveller. The sub-narrator added: Ibn Umar used to say, If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death.
