Reading today in Jutarnji list Luka Abrus s comments on lack of developers coming out of the Croatian school system. I was reminded of my recent visit to Lisbon. There I talked with an entrepreneur who is running a software company in Porto. He had been working in Germany with Rocket Internet and now they are one of his major clients. Why Porto? I asked him. Well... he said the technical universities in and near Porto produce 7,000 developers each year. Im not sure whether this figure is correct (Hrvoje Balen?) . Croatia is a bit smaller than half of Portugal (4.37 to 10.7M people) and Croatian schools, afaik, produce some 1,000 ICT engineers each year. Note that the above figure is for Porto alone, not counting the bigger Lisbon and other cities in Portugal. Engineers from Croatia and CEE in general are rightly considered to be well educated, however the sheer volume coming out of our system is already being a significant barrier to growth and will continue do be that as the ICT sector in Croatia continues to grow. cc Saša Mihovil Damir wolframalpha/input/?i=population+croatia+portugal
