Recently Ive had several FB comments from people fearful of the Ebola cases being brought to Emory Hospital for treatment. These comments reflect a fear that Ebola will somehow be released into the community due to lapses in infection containment at the hospital. These fears have been flamed by the news of recent lapses in the handling of infectious agents at the CDC. I would remind people that no one at the CDC contracted anthrax or a dangerous flu as a result, only that improper handling was identified and corrective action was taken. None of this affected the surrounding community. I would also remind people that Ebola, though infectious and highly deadly, is NOT airborne and is NOT highly communicable EXCEPT through immediate and intimate contact with any bodily fluids emanating from the sufferer. These patients coming to Emory will be placed in highly specialized containment facilities, of which there are only four in the country, and will be treated by specially trained staff. Irrational fear serves no purpose and possibilities are not the same as probabilities, which in the case of an Ebola release I view as less that the probability of my getting killed by a meteor as I sit here writing this. If you need further reassurance I suggest you listen to this NPR piece hear what the people directly involved have to say about this. npr.org/2014/08/02/337320750/atlanta-hospital-prepares-to-treat-2-ebola-patients
