Recently on FB in one group I advocated for the use of strength training with runners. In another group, in response to a specific situation I advised that a runner not worry about doing any strength training and instead focus on implementing hill sprints and lactate threshold runs. Was I contradicting myself? Nope. A good coach shouldnt limit themselves to a one method for all athletes in all conditions approach. If you were a chef would you only use one spice or seasoning? Its not all about strength; its not all about conditioning; its not all about movement. Its about choosing the appropriate techniques and tools in accordance with the principles of SAID and progressive overload, that best help an athletes specific needs.
