Remembering Komla “Agbedefu” Dumor Komla Dumor on his fb page recently: God has been v good to me.,last year I experienced a lot of illness ..my BP nearly gave me a stroke but I trod on..waking up at 2am and heading to work..exhausted sometimes..aching in my body a soul..mentally and emotionally drained ..but I kept going ..I smiled for the camera..I volunteered for extra shifts ..I showed respect to my colleagues from directors to the security guards..I took a lot of jealousy driven vicious insults and backstabbing from petty people without reply..I remain silent in my personal strife and misery..I kept smiling and pushing on to present better and to engage w my audience and increase my following.,long days and frustrating times..but I kept going..through the west gate mall coverage through the Mandela funeral..even when illness had me collapsing I delivered..today my boss the head of television called me for a 1 minute meeting..he said Komla we have decided to make you the anchor presenter for our coverage of the World Cup in Brazil ..we shook hands and I left..I looked to the sky and said thank you Lord for reminding me that you are on my side ..the enemy will be scattered..Selah!Selah! Praise Him..tomorrow is another day Reading through Komlas post on his facebook above reminded me of the mischief some put social media to. l recently read this devious lie that he had agreed with President Mahama to serve as a running mate for the 2016 presidential election at a meeting caught on both audio and video tapes in London. As usual a number of gullible Ghanaians started falling for this lie. Many started attacking him in an orchestrated manner and demanded that he reacts by telling them the truth. He did. He labeled the allegation of meeting President Mahama in London a lie and questioned how then he could have accepted to be his running mate. He asked to be left alone out of the vicious Ghanaian politics but wondered why some people take some of these wild and weird allegations to be truths without thinking through them. He expressed shock that people believed the allegations in the first place. His response appeared to have been a mistake. The very partisan folks who wanted him to react as well as the originator of the post started abusing him, calling him names, cursing him and labeling him a liar over his denial. The originator of the lie then dared Komla, the victim of his falsehood, to disprove the allegation he had made. He threatened to expose him in two weeks if he doesn’t acknowledged “his truth (lie)” publicly on fb through the publication of audio and video contents of the so-called meeting between the boss player and Mahama in London. Bring it on! Shame me! Expose me in two weeks because l don’t know what else to do to prove you are lying, Komla wrote. The two weeks came and passed. But all the originator of that obvious untruth, who is a personal friend of mine and a friend on fb, did was to go off facebook for over a month and return with a bang on other issues without the evidence to back the lie he had gotten some gullible followers to believe. Indeed, he continued with his new tall tales on others. Adios, the boss player. You indeed took a lot of jealousy driven vicious insults and backstabbing from petty people. And although you’ve died young, you certainly have left a mark in the sands of time that even your enemies, both home and abroad, cannot but acknowledge. The Lord indeed is on your side. He knows best why he calls us at his own time. May you rest in his eternal bosom.
