Renegade Rules HARRIS cars may run by HARRIS rules; may run American Racers med only or towel city recaps in Renegade class only. GENERAL • The Renegade division is a class that is designed to allow the individual to participate in V8 stock car racing at the lowest possible cost. • Very limited modifications are allowed to the cars, suspensions, and engines. • The class is open to a wide variety of American made V8 automobiles. • Cars may be stock appearing American cars with a minimum wheelbase of 108”. • Camaro year models 1967-1981 and Nova 1968-1980 are allowed. BODY • Front firewall must be steel and may be moved for engine clearance • Floor pan must be stock and in stock OEM position • Rear firewall may start behind driver’s seat • Aluminum or steel may be used to box in driver’s compartment • Cars with a boxed in interior must have a 12” x 12” removable inspection panel to check enclosed area • Any patch panel installed in the floor pan due to rust or damage must be steel • All interior panels must be sealed well enough to prevent fire, hot oil, or fuel from entering the driver’s compartment • Body must be in stock OEM location on frame and cannot be channeled over frame • After market tail and nose sections allowed • Top must be OEM or aftermarket stock replica • Rest of body can be fabricated from steel or aluminum but must follow stock body lines and must not exceed stock dimensions • No cold air boxes around carburetor • May cut hood for air cleaner clearance • May use 2 ½” high hood scoop or deflector • Must run hood at all times unless crash damage prevents it • 6” high spoiler is allowed, no side panels • Spoiler can be no wider than the top edge of the quarter panel • Uni-body cars may have bracing in critical areas and may use 2 x 3 x .095 tubing in rear to replace damaged OEM frame rails. New rails cannot extend any further forward than the front leaf spring mount. • All vehicles must have roll cage as specified in safety section CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION STEERING • Steering gear must be OEM for make of vehicle being raced • Steering column may be aftermarket collapsible type or OEM with quick release steering wheel hub mandatory SPRINGS • Must be stock appearing and in original location. 5” maximum diameter. No progressive rate springs allowed SHOCKS • Any steel non-adjustable stock appearing shock may be used. • Front shocks must remain in OEM position. • Front shock mounts may be moved up to prevent bottoming out with 3” maximum from stock position • Top of rear shocks can be moved and may use Heim joint ends or monoballs FRONT A-FRAMES • Lowers must be OEM stock in unaltered stock location only. Uppers may be tubular or modified OEM. • They must mount in unaltered OEM position • Spring spacers are allowed in front. Adjustable spring buckets may be used on rear • Adjustable shackles may be used on leaf springs • No screw jacks, adjustable lowering blocks, or sliders allowed • Rear control arms must be OEM stock and in stock position. Uppers may be modified for pinion angle. • A-frames and control arms may be reinforced • All suspension bushings must be OEM type, no mono-ball type bushings allowed ENGINE • Must be same make as car • Must be strictly stock with the following exceptions: • No factory high performance parts allowed • Cubic inches – Chevy 350, Ford 351, Chrysler 360. .060 maximum overbore will be allowed • Block must be factory cast iron OEM production block only and must not be altered in any way. May be zero decked • Late model 302 Ford, 305 Chevy, and 318 Chrysler engines with factory stock hydraulic roller cam and lifters may be used. Must have OEM stock valve train except cam. The rest of the engine must follow standard engine rules. ENGINE LOCATION • Engine may be set back no further than the number one spark plug in line with the upper ball joints CRANKSHAFT AND RODS • Must be factory OEM production, stock replacement cast steel, or crankshaft: scat part #4-350-3480 or eagle part # esp103503480 & esp103523480 only, rods: eagle part # sp5700bplw or scat part # sca-25700p. • NO CUTTING ALLOWED ON CRANKSHAFT • NO WORK ALLOWED OF ANY KIND ON ROD • May run any rod bolt • Floating pin ok • Balancing of rotating assembly allowed PISTONS • Must be factory OEM cast piston or direct replacement 4 valve relief only • May use hyper-eutectic pistons • No light weight high performance forged pistons allowed. The only forged piston allowed is the L-2256 TRW / Speedpro HEADS • Must be factory OEM cast iron straight plug only • Absolutely no modifications to ports or combustion chambers allowed • No high performance or double hump heads allowed • No bow tie or Vortec heads allowed • Combustion chambers must be a minimum of 70cc • No angle milling of head to alter valve angle from stock 23 degrees for Chevy or stock specification for any other brand • 3 angle valve jobs are allowed. 60 degrees maximum angle. • Stock diameter valve springs only • Any steel retainer allowed • Rocker arm studs may use 3/8” screw in • Guide plates are allowed • Any 1.5 ratio roller rocker allowed • Poly locks and stud girdles ok VALVES • Must not exceed 1.94 for intake or 1.50 for exhaust on any head • Must be stock or direct replacement only • No undercut heads or stems • No titanium • No hollow stem valves allowed CAMSHAFT • Must be hydraulic flat tappet cam and lifters only • Any timing chain can be used • No gear drives allowed • Camshaft may be degreed • Duration is open • Valve lift may be maximum of .425 for Chevy and a maximum .450 for all other brands OIL PAN AND PICKUP • May be any wet sump, steel only COOLING SYSTEM • Must remain in stock configuration • Radiator may be aluminum direct replacement BALANCER • OEM stock only or direct replacement SFI EXHAUST • May run up to 1 ¾” primary tube, standard collector, 4 into 1 header or stock manifolds only • Exhaust extensions may be a maximum of 24”, including the muffler. This measurement will begin at the end of the header collector or exhaust manifold and go to the very end of the muffler or extension • Fender well headers may also be used • No coatings allowed • No tri-y headers, merge collectors, or x pipes allowed INTAKE MANIFOLD • May be stock OEM cast iron, low rise, 2 or 4 barrel, or Edelbrock #2101 Performer only. No alterations to ports allowed IGNITION • Stock type ignition • Stock type distributor only • No altering firing order • Brass gear is legal • No MSD with boxes CARBURETOR • Quadrojet • No modifications except choke flap removal • No removal of choke horn • May run Holley 600 #1850 carburetor • Has to be stock appearing on outside with stock tube and float bowl • Must have air horn with number • Adapter plate Mr. gasket #1932 only ¾” thick • May run ¼” thick quadrojet gasket • May run a box stock 650 Holley #4777 • May use a 1” max thickness adapter if using Holley carburetor on quadrojet intake with (2) .070” max thickness gaskets only AIR CLEANER • May use open element 14” x 4” maximum air cleaner. High performance filter elements allowed. May use 2” high maximum air cleaner riser FUEL PUMP • Must be OEM or direct replacement mechanical pump only. No high performance pumps allowed. REAR END • GM 10 or 12 bolt rear end ok • 9” ford or floater ok • May run after market axles • Any gear ratio allowed • Locked or limited slip rear ends allowed • Full spools ok • No gun drilled axles • No gun drilled or scalloped rotors • No lightening of any parts • All components must be made of steel DRIVESHAFT • Has to be stock OEM driveshaft TRANSMISSION • May be stock OEM 3 or 4 speed, or automatic • Must retain all gears with reverse • Automatic must retain working torque converter • Straight drive must have single disc OEM type clutch and pressure plate • Clutch must be 10 ½” diameter with full lining • Mechanical or hydraulic clutch release mechanisms may be used • Straight drive flywheel must be OEM type steel and a minimum of 14 lbs. • Blow proof bell housings or scatter shields are mandatory for all transmission types • SFI approved flex plates are mandatory on automatics BRAKES • Must be factory OEM brakes and disc or drum • Brakes must work on all 4 wheels • No cutting or lightening brake rotors • Racing type pedals may be used with dual master cylinders • No brake bias adjusters inside the car • No brake shut off valves allowed • No aftermarket or aluminum calipers WHEELS • 8” wide x 15” steel wheels only • Right side may use bead lock • ½” studs and nuts recommended TIRES • May use (soft or medium) Hoosier, American Racer, Towel City Recaps, or any 60 or 70 series DOT street tire. Tires cannot be screwed to the wheel in any way WEIGHT • Minimum 3200 lbs. after race with driver. Proper car weight must be posted on both sides of hood in numbers no less than 3” MANDATORY FUEL • Pump gas or 110 racing fuel may be used. No performance additives of any kind allowed ANY ITEM NOT SPECIFIED IN THESE RULES MUST BE APPROVED BY TRACK BEFORE RACE OR IT IS NOT LEGAL. PROTEST AND CLAIM RULE • Protest bottom - $600 • Protest any 3 items - $300 • Acceptance fee - $100 • Track keeps $100 • Buy rule on roller rockers - $200 Could be required to add weight to cars from other track who normally do not race at Thunder Valley Speedway to adjust to the rules. Track has final say.
