Republicans and Democrats finally found something they can agree on: that the IRS is lying like a rug!... House investigators looking into the IRS’ targeting of Tea Party groups couldn’t get the official in charge, Lois Lerner, to talk. So they asked the IRS to send them two years’ worth of her emails to and from the White House and other agencies. But the IRS replied, “No can do.” Those emails were all lost in a computer crash. But hardly anyone on either side of the political fence could drink enough Kool-Aid to swallow that. They’re asking questions, like, aren’t government computers backed up every night? Aren’t emails stored on a main frame server? Wouldn’t a crash that severe also have wiped out two years’ worth of other documents and been a major news story? The IRS commissioner will face questions like that from two angry House committees next week. That is, unless his dog eats his subpoena. Meanwhile, I have a question: if the IRS audits me, can I just say, “Sorry! The computer ate my tax records”?
