Right now I really feel like Politics should NOT come into play when we are trying to find relief for Puna! It is very, very disheartening to hear that there are still so many people in Puna without electricity, water, and even homes. So while our state, including our Island have capable men to help restore power to Puna but are being TURNED AWAY because at one point in thier life they were let go from Helco/Heco is absolutely DISGUSTING! Helco/Heco often contracts work out to fellow local companies, who these men now work for and yet a report that a QUALIFIED worker from a contracted company arrived on the Big Island this week and was immediately sent back By Hecos NEW Manager of Safety and Security, Steve Newell! If I were drowing and an ex-convict was the one to pull me from the waters you better believe I would be greatful! I dont care that these are EX -HELCO/HECO employees, if they can help, LET THEM HELP! Steve while you are in the comforts of your home tonight I hope you enjoy the running water, flick of a light switch and flushing toilets, because of YOUR decisions, you are hindering all available resources to the Puna district. While it is absolutely Helco/Hecos right not to employee these people for their company, The People Of Puna continue to suffer, (with little reporting on btw) and we have men WILLING and again QUALIFIED to work and you again choose to turn them away! Bringing in crews from off island is awesome, but when the estimated time of electric being restored for some residents is at a week, two weeks, 3 or more weeks, YOU NEED TO DO MORE! You have the resources right here in our backyard, MAKE IT HAPPEN! SHAME ON YOU STEVE NEWELL!
