Rnd 17 Kingston City Fc vs Casey Comets FC by Maria Gaitanis The Lady Reds hosted their last home game of season 2013 to visitors Casey Comets in a one off twilight match. The squad welcomed back striker Tina from holidays but the bench was still wearing thin with girls injured. The game started well as KC controlled the ball with ease whilst applying pressure. KC’s hard work paid off in the 21st min when Casey’s keeper made a mistake by picking up a back pass resulting in an indirect free kick for the home side. Tina stepped up to take it & made no mistake finding a gap in the wall to make it 1-0. The home side extended their lead eight min later when a neat one-two pass between Natasha & Tina saw Nat crack a shot from the top of the 18 yard line chipping the keeper & handing KC a 2-0 lead. A penalty was awarded to the home side in the 36th min with Marina stepping up to take it. Unfortunately she blasted the ball over the bar missing a golden opportunity. Three min later a pass from Jo to Marina she was able to cross the ball to Tina who surged towards the keeper nutmegging her & extending KC’s lead to 3-0. Just before half time Casey was awarded a penalty from a player being brought down in the box. Casey’s striker stepped up to take but she too blasted the ball over the bar letting KC of the hook at half time. The second half got underway with KC once again dominating all over the pitch. In the 58th min Tina intercepted a weak kick out by Casey’s keeper, strolling in & slotting calmly to bring up her hat trick making it 4-0. Constant pressure from the home side saw them grab another goal in the 74th min when midfielder Lisa gave a through ball to Marina who charged into the box shooting low past the keeper, making up for her earlier penalty miss & extending KC’s lead to 5-0. A third penalty was awarded to the home side in the 85th from a hand ball infringement. Veteran Maria G was given the honours to take it as she drilled the ball low & hard past the keeper to make it 6-0. One last goal was added in the 86th min when Tina carved up the Casey defence getting into the box & netting her fourth for the evening as KC triumphantly finished the game winning 7-0. Well done girls on a super effort, you all played extremely well showing great character & team spirit. Well done also to Tina’s goal haul today, no doubt your late father would have been very proud of you. Today’s victory is dedicated in the memory of the late John Moutafis. Final score Kingston City FC 7-0 Casey Comets SC
