Robin, This is a very unfortunate time for you to ask my hand in marriage. As much as I want to, but I have to decline your offer. Ina died last Wednesday morning due to the complications of her illness. She puked of blood just before the midday Angelus, we tried to bring her to the town hospital, but she was gone before we got there. Clara, my sister, fainted when she heard the news. Tatay on the otherhand has been dazed since then. Trust me when I say, that since then, I haven’t got the slightest amount of sleep. I was the one who took care of everything, from bringing Ina’s body to the morgue, to the settling of papers, down to the tiniest details of her 1 week funeral; I’m expecting our relatives from Cavite anyday now. And also, believe me when I say that writing you all of this is my only release of stress, for as you can well imagine – I am the only one functional here as of the moment. The elders told me that it is bad luck to marry within the span of a year after a relative’s death. I am not in any way superstitious. But it is my family’s wish, and I intend to honor that. Please do understand this for my sake, and know that despite the prolonging of our union, this will not enfeeble my love for you any less, because for one, I am with a child and it is yours.
