Rocky is available through National Brussels Griffon Rescue, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas. Direct inquiries to nbgrtexas@yahoo Rocky came to NBGR when he was rescued from a big puppy mill operation in San Antonio, Texas. Rocky is an adorable little guy, weighing roughly 11 pounds. Having lived his entire life in a wire cage, Rocky knew practically nothing when he first came into rescue. Just to give you an idea of the neglect these puppy mill dogs suffer, when we first got Rocky, we were letting him run around inside a fenced in yard, his first time running free. This yard had an in-ground swimming pool in it. Poor Rocky had probably never been allowed to walk on the ground before and had no idea of different textures, heights or anything. He walked right off the edge of the pool, right into the water… He had never experienced water like that before and had no idea that you can’t walk on it. He would walk into glass doors not knowing you couldn’t walk through glass, he would tumble down steps because he had no idea about height or depth. Thank goodness he is a fast learner and no longer walks into glass doors, tumbles down steps or walks right off the edge of swimming pools. It was like his little brain had to be re-wired to learn how to navigate this huge new world! Rocky is definitely a Velcro dog, having attached himself to his foster mom’s hip since day one. He is learning that other people are okay, but he is shy and will bark when they first come around. He does warm up eventually. He had many accidents when he first came into foster care. Puppy mill dogs that are kept the way Rocky was kept must urinate and defecate in the same area where they sleep and eat, so potty training can be difficult. Fortunately, Rocky is a fast learner and hasn’t had any accidents since being put on a schedule of going outside every 3 or 4 hours for a potty break. Rocky goes into a crate with no problem, and his foster mom crates him at night and when they are away from the house. Rocky gets along with all his furry brothers and sisters, and he has several to hang out with, large and small. He hasn’t learned to play with them yet, but the other day he did display some play posturing with one of his fur brothers in the house, so he is on the right track! We just know that Rocky will be such a great pet as someone who is very patient and loving helps him to build self-esteem and see all that life has to offer him! He hasn’t been around small children so with his shyness and fear of sudden or loud noises, we feel that homes with older children or no children would suit him best. Rocky needs a home with a secure, fenced-in yard. When not in a secured area he must, like all rescues, wear his harness and leash. He is a very loving dog and is learning everyday what it is like to be in a loving family and to have regular meals and clean water. He is finally enjoying life! Do you have the patience and time to give Rocky the love and attention he needs? He will reward you with the most bonded and loyal companion you could ask for! Rocky is neutered, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. More info at brusselsgriffonrescue.org/rescued/rocky10-27-14.html
