Romans 3:27-30 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Faith implies dependence upon another. If you have faith in someone and the need arises for that person to act on your behalf, you trust that they are standing ready. Our need was incredibly great, and Jesus rose and stood in the breech between all humanity and God. This is why it is by grace through FAITH that we are justified before God the Father, and not by works of the law. We are declared righteous because we have faith in the person of Jesus, and trust in the work that was done at the cross. All those who believe must be extremely careful in how they perceive their own salvation, lest they live their lives trying to earn the acceptance of God through our good works.
