SABT AGM: It is with sadness that EBBASA took note of the results of the just completed AGM of the SABT. Whereas EBBASA believed that the Board of the SABT would at least request a mandate from their members regarding further negotiations on the future of the Boerboel, it simply did not happen. EBBASA, BI and KUSA had numerous discussions with the SABT negotiators but nothing came of it as a result of the negotiators inability to obtain a mandate from select members of the Board which were consulted regarding a mandate. Whilst all three the other organisations have made it clear that they are open and willing to negotiate, SABT chose to keep the decision on the granting of a mandate (probably the most important decision for the Breed) as the prerogative of the Board.....a structure which is unfortunately controlled by persons with vested interest in the perpetuation of the production of cross bred dogs. Other items that were glaringly omitted from the Agenda of the AGM are: 1) The actual status of SA Studbook as a Breeders Society 2) The actual status of SA Studbook as a Registering Authority for the Boerboel 3) The transfer of SABTs assets to the SABBS and the change in the private ownership status of SABBS 4) the testing of cross bred dogs (and Im not referring to only black dogs) currently registered as Boerboels by the SABT against the academically validated DNA breed profile for the Boerboel, etc, etc. Does the current Board of the SABT truly believe that a large group of breeders who do not want their breed destroyed or to be autocratically controlled by a small clique will disappear or be intimidated into oblivion? EBBASA again appeals to the SABT to reconsider their stance of domination instead of negotiation........the damage cause to the breed for the benefit of a few protected breeders is already immeasurable and the saddest thing is that all these actions are perpetuated in the name of the founding organisation which was established to stop cross breeding and establish breed purity through the strict enforcement of a breed standard. I met with a person who attended the founding meeting of the SABT in 1984 on Sunday. This person stopped breeding years ago and just bought a Boerboel again........and he was appalled at what is happening under the banner of the SABT........and so am I.
