SACRIFICE AND OBEDIENCE But the people took of the spoil, sheep - TopicsExpress

SACRIFICE AND OBEDIENCE But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:21-22 This is how the story started…Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass... 1 Samuel 15:3. Sacrifices were instituted by God, and He delights in the sweet smelling savor of the sacrifices of His people. Abel was justified before God because of his sacrifice, David once said he won’t sacrifice to God what didn’t cost him anything, Solomon got the opportunity to ask God whatsoever he desires just because of his sacrifice and all these are because of the way God has regards for sacrifices. Men had won the heart of God by their sacrifices, and many are still winning over His heart. Despite the extent of respect God has for sacrifice yet, obedience to His word worth more than the any amount of sacrifices no matter how fatted and plenteous they are. Obedience is better than sacrifices. Saul was instructed not to spare anything, but he did spare fatted sheep and oxen and chief things to sacrifice unto the Lord. At this point God distinguished what He values more between them and He said, in comparison between obedience and sacrifices, He delights so much in obedience that He has no pleasure in sacrifices. You may had been sponsoring the gospel, that God delights in, you may had been preaching, helping with the work of God and doing several sacrificial services, the truth is, God wouldn’t accept you if you are doing these things in disobedience to His word. Your gifts can’t defend you before God if you disobey His word. Even to those that some times indicate interest in sponsoring our print media outreach, we will always tell them that though we appreciate their efforts, but their effort wouldn’t save them if they have not been saved. When a good thing is done in disobedience, that good thing becomes very evil. Saul lost his throne because he preferred to offer God sacrifices rather than obeying, you’ll loose your destiny and fall out of God’s purpose for your life if you offer Him sacrifices without obedience
