SENATOR OKOWA AND HIS TEAM PAYS CONSULTATION VISIT TO IJAW NATIONAL LEADER,DELTA STATE POLITICAL IROKO,ELDER STATESMAN AND A FOREMOST NATIONALIST-HIGH CHIEF EDWIN K CLARK AT KIAGBODO, BURUTU LGA-3RD SEPTEMBER,2014-Deltans Diaspora The town of Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State was today agog with jubilation and celebration of a political lion and icon, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as he stormed the town with his team of dignitaries on consultation visit to foremost Ijaw leader and the Iroko of delta state politics, High Chief E.K Clark popularly addressed the Ogogorogo by his kinsmen. The Senator who arrived at Kiagbodo about 12:00noon was ushered in with dances and chanting into the compound of the former Minister of Information with dance by youths and women from the towns and villages of Burutu As tradition demands, the Dr. Okowa with his team of dignitaries were welcomed by Pa Clark with the presentation of kola nut which he reciprocated after receiving it; and immediately followed by introduction of dignitaries taken by Sir Askia Ogeh (Bashorun). Thereafter, Senator Okowa took the floor to acquaint the high Chief the essence of the visit which he said would have been paid earlier before now but because of the National assignment that Chief Clark was engaged in, the reason the visit was put on-hold. Okowa who expressed joy over the role Chief E.K Clark played during the just concluded National Conference, thanked him for making Deltans and Nigerians proud with his outspokenness and contributions toward the success of the Conference which outcome will in no measure contribute to National development. According to him, Deltans are happy and more united having Chief Clark in front of political affairs of Nigeria, eagerly yearning for a leader that will compliment the effort of Delta State past leaders. Speaking further, Senator Okowa said as Delta State moves forward democratically, there is need to create jobs for our teeming youths to engage in. In his words, transformation requires development of the economy especially on agriculture that was basically the major source of employment and economic survival for the people; and that his administration will look into agricultural development skills which will make Delta State a point of attraction. Speaking on his agenda for the Health Sector, Okowa appreciated Gov. Uduaghans administration for Health reforms and assured Chief Clark that he will embark on universal health suffrage program that will grant Deltans quick access to medical assistance in times of need. On security, Dr. Okowa said since security is a basic concern of every man, there is need to partner with stakeholders and elders in Delta State to fight insecurity. Senator Okowa said Delta State will witness developmental diversification through a govt that is goal oriented, saying the foundation that have been laid, needs an experienced, humble and listening leader to be consolidated upon. Speaking in his usual oratorical manner,Okowa took Pa Clark down the memory lane on his voyage into politics. Senator okowa who was the Pioneer Executive Chairman of Ika North-East LGA was also Commissioner in three different ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Health. As commissioner for water resources, modern pipe borne water was distributed to virtually all parts of the State. Since his assumption of office as a Senator, he has continued to champion the course of Delta State being the mother of Delta North and consolidating the developmental agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan. Having had the opportunity to serve as Senator, hes been driven by passion and the yearning of Deltans to come back home to put his wealth of experience into use to develop Delta State. In appreciating Chief Clark for the privilege given to him to stand before him, Dr. Okowa urge him to continue to make himself available to him in order to help him pilot the State. Being mindful of the fact that all the aspirants are qualified, Senator Okowa solicited for the support of the Ijaw leader,stating that he is the most experienced, humble,having worked closely with Deltans and has become part and parcel of all the ethnic groups of the State. Senator Okowa who said his passion to govern Delta, is not on ethnic basis; but in the interest of Deltans and Delta State as indivisible entities, as good a listener and manager, said he is a servant in the services of the people. He concluded with appreciation and said he is convinced that Deltans have made their choice ahead of the primary election. In his reaction, Chief Clark appreciated the Senator for the honour accorded him. In his words;...........Many aspirants have come to me for consultation but non of them have I endorsed........ Democracy is all about competition and I do not believe in one man imposing a candidate on everybody........ When I was told that Gov. Uduaghan has anointed Obuh, I invited him to my house in abuja and asked him how true what I heard was, he vehemently denied it,,..... I reminded him of the challenge he faced when he got PDP ticket in 2007 and warned him to desist from imposing any candidate on the people.... The former minister went further to say that as a lawyer, he believes in precedents which bring about understanding among people. According to Chief Clark,...... in the spirit of fairness and equity, I advised Godsday Orubebe an Ijaw man to drop his ambition since the President, Dr. Ebele Jonathan is an Ijaw man who wants to go back as president... Moreso, Chief Clark said the purported anointing was a rumour peddled by Hon. Monday Igbuya, Barr. Faith Majemite, and Ayiri. He therefore urged all aspirants to reach out to Deltans to market their popularity and sell their manifesto than relying on one man that can not speak for Deltans. Chief Clark said... anybody that wins the primary reflects the choice of Deltans. For him, anybody that wishes to lead Delta State in 2015 must be truthful, transparent and experienced enough. Thereafter, he offered a prayer for Senator Okowa and enjoined him to continue in his good works to his father land, Delta State and Nigeria at large.
